NOC2 like nucleolar associated transcriptional repressor (NOC2L)

Target
NOC2L
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Histone modification (INHAT - Inhibitor Of Histone Acetyltransferase)
01

Overview

NOC2 like nucleolar associated transcriptional repressor (NOC2L) is a protein involved in gene silencing through inhibition of histone acetyltransferases, notably EP300/p300, at p53-regulated promoters. Unlike classical histone deacetylases, NOC2L functions as a HDAC-independent INHAT repressor, preventing the acetylation of core histones and modulating the activity of key cell cycle and apoptosis regulators, including p53 and TP63. NOC2L is primarily localized in the nucleolus and nucleoplasm; it is not currently considered a pharmacological therapeutic target but is studied for its fundamental roles in transcriptional regulation and some genetic diseases such as Epiphyseal Chondrodysplasia, Miura Type.
