Overview

The nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide receptor (NOP), also known as ORL1 or kappa-type 3 opioid receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor belonging to the opioid receptor family. It is activated by its endogenous ligand nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ). NOP plays a role in various physiological functions, including pain modulation, mood regulation, blood pressure control, and immune modulation. Due to these roles, it is a therapeutic target for analgesia, depression, Parkinson’s disease, and alcohol addiction.
