The NLRP3 inflammasome pathway refers to a cellular signaling cascade initiated by the multiprotein NLRP3 inflammasome complex, which is a key sensor in the innate immune system detecting a wide array of exogenous and endogenous danger signals. Upon activation, NLRP3 nucleates the recruitment of the adaptor ASC and pro-caspase-1, ultimately leading to the activation of caspase-1, cleavage, and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, and induction of pyroptotic cell death.
