Target intelligence / Profile preview
The NLRP3 inflammasome is a cytosolic multiprotein complex that plays a central role in the innate immune system by detecting pathogenic microorganisms and cellular damage, thereby initiating inflammatory responses. It consists of the sensor NLRP3, the adaptor ASC, and the effector pro-caspase-1. Activation leads to the maturation and release of IL-1β and IL-18, as well as pyroptosis via gasdermin D. Aberrant activation is implicated in numerous diseases.
