Non-hematopoietic stem cell population (null)

Target
null
Molecular classification
Other (stem/progenitor cell population, not a canonical molecular family: includes stromal/mesenchymal, endothelial, embryonic-like, etc.)
01

Overview

Non-hematopoietic stem cell populations are primitive, self-renewing cells found in adult bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, and other tissues, able to differentiate into non-blood cell types such as bone, cartilage, fat, endothelial, neuronal, and epithelial cells[1][3][2]. They include cell types such as mesenchymal stromal cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and very small embryonic-like stem cells, and are the subject of intense research for their roles in tissue repair, regeneration, and cell-based therapy[3]. These populations do not function as defined molecular therapeutic targets (like a receptor or enzyme) but are rather broad cell groups with regenerative potential, identifiable by characteristic cell surface markers and differentiation capacity[1][3].
