Overview

Non-SMC condensin II complex subunit G2 (NCAPG2) is a regulatory protein within the condensin II complex, essential for mitotic chromosome condensation and segregation[4][3]. NCAPG2 mediates proper microtubule–kinetochore attachment by recruiting Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) to kinetochores, which is crucial for accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis[1][2]. It also participates in the regulation of DNA repair pathways and maintenance of genomic stability, interacting with factors such as MCPH1[3]. Loss or dysfunction of NCAPG2 disrupts chromosome condensation and can lead to aneuploidy and developmental defects. Increased expression of NCAPG2 is associated with tumorigenesis and poor prognosis, especially in certain cancers, suggesting its utility as a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target[3].
