Non-SMC element 4 homolog A, pseudogene (ENSG00000270469) is a genomic sequence resembling the functional NSMCE4A coding gene, a component of the SMC5-SMC6 complex responsible for DNA damage repair and maintenance of telomeres[7]. However, as a pseudogene, it is likely nonfunctional for protein coding due to disruptive mutations such as frameshifts and premature stop codons[2][4]. Most pseudogenes do not produce active proteins but may, in rare cases, generate RNA transcripts with possible regulatory effects on their parental genes[2][4]. There is no current evidence that the NSMCE4A pseudogene is associated with drug interactions, clinical biomarkers, or direct disease mechanisms. Standard therapeutic target databases and reference gene catalogs list NSMCE4A as a protein-coding member of the SMC family, but "NSMCE4A pseudogene" itself should not be considered a canonical target for drug discovery or clinical intervention[3][7][2][4].
