Non-SMC element 4 homolog A pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene, Non-coding genetic element
01

Overview

Non-SMC element 4 homolog A pseudogene is a processed or duplicated pseudogene related in sequence to the parent NSMCE4A gene, which is involved in chromosome maintenance and structural functions in cells. Pseudogenes such as this one are nonfunctional DNA elements that arise either by duplication of a functional gene followed by disabling mutations (duplicated pseudogene) or by retrotransposition of an mRNA transcript back into the genome (processed pseudogene). They do not encode functional proteins, do not serve as therapeutic targets, and do not participate directly in disease processes. Occasionally, some pseudogenes may be transcribed and have minor regulatory roles, but such functions are rare and not attributed to this pseudogene in any major reference database. This target is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other druggable entity. It should not be considered as a candidate for pharmacological intervention, biomarker research, or clinical translation.

Mechanism of action

None; no mechanism of action because it is not a drug target

03

Biological functions

No known protein-coding or physiological functionSome pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects (such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs), but there is no evidence or annotation for this pseudogene
04

Disease associations

Pseudogenes are generally not directly implicated as drivers or suppressors in diseasesRarely, a pseudogene may act as a biomarker or have indirect regulatory roles, but there is no evidence for this pseudogene
