Non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) are a family of small, basic, cysteine-rich plant proteins characterized by a conserved 8-cysteine motif and four internal disulfide bonds that confer stability and form a hydrophobic cavity capable of binding a broad variety of lipid molecules[1][2][4]. They are ubiquitously expressed in higher plants and have versatile biological roles, including facilitating lipid transfer between membranes, participation in membrane biogenesis, cell wall organization, plant defense against pathogens, response to biotic and abiotic stress, and roles in plant development, seed maturation, and germination[2][4][6]. Some nsLTPs are allergens that remain stable and immunogenic after digestion, contributing to food allergies in humans[2]. nsLTPs are not recognized as therapeutic targets for human drugs or diseases, and "Non-specific proteins and lipids" is not a specific or therapeutically actionable molecular target.
