Overview

Noncompact myelin-associated protein (NCMAP) is a glycosylated protein predominantly expressed in the peripheral nervous system, where it functions as a structural constituent of the myelin sheath. It is essential for the formation, stability, and maintenance of myelin, especially in the peripheral nervous system, and is particularly localized to noncompact regions of myelin such as the Schmidt-Lanterman incisures and paranodal regions of axons. NCMAP is not recognized as a classic drug target, receptor, or enzyme, but mutations and differential expression have been associated with certain neurological syndromes[1][2][3][6][7][9].
