Nonstructural protein 5B (NS5B) is an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) essential for the replication of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It catalyzes the polymerization of ribonucleoside triphosphates (rNTPs), synthesizing new viral RNA strands using the viral positive-sense RNA as a template. It is a key target for direct-acting antiviral drugs.
