NOP56 ribonucleoprotein pseudogene 1 (NOP56P1), also known as NOP56-L or dJ207F6.1, is a *pseudogene* of the human NOP56 gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but are non-coding and usually do not produce functional proteins. Thus, NOP56P1 does *not* encode an active protein and is not considered a therapeutic target. Most research, disease involvement, and drug discovery efforts pertain only to the functional parent gene (NOP56), not its pseudogene derivative[5][3]. If you are interested in NOP56 (the active protein-coding gene), that is a nucleolar protein essential for ribosome biogenesis, associated with spinocerebellar ataxia type 36 and some cancers, but NOP56P1 itself is biologically inert and not a meaningful therapeutic target[2][1][4].
