NOP58 ribonucleoprotein homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000261278) is a nonfunctional copy ("pseudogene") of the NOP58 ribonucleoprotein gene. The true NOP58 encodes a core component of small nucleolar ribonucleoproteins (snoRNPs), which are essential for ribosomal RNA processing and nucleolar function. Pseudogenes like ENSG00000261278 do not produce a functional protein but may occasionally contribute regulatory noncoding RNA molecules in particular disease settings, most notably cancer, through competitive binding of microRNAs (ceRNA activity). However, direct evidence for this specific pseudogene's functional role or impact is currently lacking in the curated literature and databases.
