Overview

The noradrenaline receptor alpha 1B, also known as the alpha-1B adrenergic receptor or ADRA1B, is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. It is one of three subtypes of alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, all of which are activated by catecholamines such as norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and epinephrine (adrenaline). It is widely distributed in the body, with high expression levels in the central nervous system. Upon activation, it stimulates phospholipase C, leading to increased production of IP3 and DAG, resulting in elevated intracellular calcium levels and activation of protein kinase C pathways. It primarily mediates smooth muscle contraction, notably vasoconstriction. ADRA1B has been implicated as a proto-oncogene and interacts with proteins such as AP2M1. Mutations can result in constitutive activity.
