The norepinephrine receptor alpha 2A subunit (α2A-adrenergic receptor or ADRA2A) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a critical role in regulating neurotransmitter release and mediating physiological responses to catecholamines. It acts as an autoreceptor on presynaptic sympathetic nerve terminals to inhibit norepinephrine release and is also found postsynaptically in the CNS where it modulates cognitive functions. Drugs targeting this receptor are used for sedation, analgesia, hypertension, and ADHD.
