Norepinephrine Reuptake (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Transporter, SLC6 family transporter
01

Overview

Norepinephrine reuptake is the process by which norepinephrine (noradrenaline) is removed from the synaptic cleft and transported back into the presynaptic neuron via the norepinephrine transporter (NET). This mechanism regulates norepinephrine levels in synapses, controlling its duration and intensity of action on postsynaptic adrenergic receptors. Inhibition of norepinephrine reuptake increases noradrenergic signaling and is a target for drugs used in treating major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, narcolepsy, and chronic pain.
