Norepinephrine Transporter (NET)

Target
NET
Molecular classification
Transporter, Solute Carrier Family 6 Member 2, Neurotransmitter Transporter, Sodium/chloride-dependent neurotransmitter transporter
01

Overview

The norepinephrine transporter (NET), also known as the noradrenaline transporter (NAT), is a membrane protein responsible for the reuptake of synaptically released norepinephrine (NE) into presynaptic noradrenergic neurons. This process serves as the primary mechanism for terminating noradrenergic signaling. NET is a member of the solute carrier family 6 (SLC6A2) and its function is regulated by post-translational modifications and other cellular signaling events. Inhibition of NET is a therapeutic strategy for depression and ADHD.
