Overview

The Notch 3 receptor is a single-pass transmembrane protein that functions as a receptor in the highly conserved Notch signaling pathway. It plays critical roles in cell fate determination, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) function, and tissue homeostasis. Mutations in NOTCH3 are associated with CADASIL and other diseases. It can act as an oncogene or tumor suppressor depending on the cancer context.
