NOVA1 divergent transcript (NOVA1-DT) is a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) located near the protein-coding gene NOVA1. As a member of the lincRNA and lncRNA family, NOVA1-DT does not code for a protein but is thought to be involved in the fine-tuning of gene expression and regulatory processes, potentially affecting transcription, RNA stabilization, and chromatin architecture. Divergent transcripts such as NOVA1-DT are defined by their proximity and opposite orientation relative to protein-coding genes (within 300–500 nucleotides), which may allow regulatory interplay. There is currently no reported role as a therapeutic target, no known drug interactions, and it has not been established as a biomarker or a source of unique safety concerns. While lncRNAs as a group are increasingly recognized for their roles in neurological and transcriptional control, the specific functions and clinical implications of NOVA1-DT require further elucidation.
