novel antisense transcript to cullin-2

Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA, Natural antisense transcript, Long non-coding RNA
01

Overview

This molecule is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the CUL2 gene. As a natural antisense transcript, its biological role is not to encode a protein, but to modulate the expression of the CUL2 gene through mechanisms such as promoter methylation, chromatin modification, splicing regulation, and mRNA stability or translation[5][1][3]. Such antisense transcripts are widespread in eukaryotic genomes and have been shown to exert both activating and repressive effects on their sense protein-coding gene counterparts. Experimental data indicate that NATs may participate in epigenetic silencing, alternative splicing modulation, and RNA masking, but the full spectrum of function for the antisense transcript to CUL2 remains undefined[5]. At present, there is no evidence that this transcript is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic drug target. It is not recognized by common drug or biomarker databases as actionable.
