Overview

This molecule is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PTPRQ gene. Antisense lncRNAs often regulate their paired sense genes via a variety of mechanisms, including RNA interference, modulation of transcription, mRNA stability, or epigenetic modification, but the specific role of this antisense transcript is not defined in the current literature. The PTPRQ sense gene, by contrast, is a well-defined membrane protein, mutations of which are associated with autosomal recessive hearing loss, but the impact of its antisense transcript on PTPRQ or disease biology remains unknown. No drugs are currently known to interact with or target this transcript, and it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target in its own right[1][7]. This entry is valid as a genomic object but is not a canonical therapeutic protein or pathway target. If a traditional therapeutic target is required, information should focus on the sense gene product, protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor Q[3][5].
