Overview

Novel pseudogene KIAA2013 (also known as LOC728138) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome with high sequence homology to the protein-coding KIAA2013 gene[3][5]. Processed pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription of mRNA and reinsertion into the genome, lacking introns and frequently rendered nonfunctional due to mutations in coding or regulatory sequences[2][4]. The KIAA2013 functional gene encodes a transmembrane protein of unknown function, but its pseudogene counterpart is not known to produce a functional protein and does not act as a druggable therapeutic target[5][3]. Although some pseudogenes can exert regulatory functions at the RNA level (such as acting as miRNA decoys or influencing parental gene expression), there is no evidence that LOC728138 is itself a functional regulator or involved in therapeutically relevant pathways for disease or drug interaction[1][6]. No drugs, biomarkers, or direct mechanism-of-action data are associated with this pseudogene.
