ENSG00000297401 is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the SHC2 gene. As with many natural antisense transcripts, it may be involved in regulation of the sense SHC2 transcript, potentially via chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or regulation of transcript stability. However, this particular lncRNA has not been characterized as a protein, enzyme, receptor, or therapeutic target. There is currently no evidence supporting its utility in disease diagnostics, therapeutics, or drug targeting. Natural antisense lncRNAs are a widespread genomic feature, and generally function by diverse epigenetic regulatory mechanisms, but very few have been validated as therapeutic targets or biomarkers.
