Novel transcript, antisense STOM

Molecular classification
Other, Natural antisense transcript, Noncoding RNA
01

Overview

This transcript is a natural antisense RNA discovered in the vicinity of the STOM gene. Natural antisense transcripts (NATs) such as antisense STOM are increasingly recognized as pervasive throughout the genome, where they play roles in the regulation of gene expression, chromatin structure, and epigenetic marking[4][1][5]. Their functional mechanisms may include modulation of transcriptional dynamics, epigenetic remodeling, and even interference with the paired sense (protein-coding) genes' expression[1][3]. While some antisense transcripts have been associated with disease states or prognosis—especially in cancer or imprinting contexts—their individual roles are often gene- and context-specific, and direct drug targeting remains largely unexplored[3][5]. As a noncoding RNA, novel transcript, antisense STOM is not considered a classical drug target, receptor, enzyme, or protein biomarker.
