Novel transcript, antisense to CTNNA3" is a noncoding RNA transcribed from the DNA strand opposite the CTNNA3 gene, which encodes alpha-T-catenin—a protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and implicated in several diseases. This antisense RNA's function is not well characterized; it does not code for a protein nor is it recognized as a therapeutic target. While noncoding antisense transcripts can sometimes regulate expression of nearby genes, no direct regulatory role or disease association has been established for this particular transcript. The sense gene (CTNNA3) is notable for its roles in cell adhesion, cardiac function, and as a potential tumor suppressor, but these properties are not shared by the antisense RNA transcript.
