Novel transcript, antisense to ROBO2 is a natural antisense, non-protein-coding RNA transcribed from the DNA strand opposite the ROBO2 gene and partially overlaps with it. Antisense transcripts such as this are prevalent in mammalian genomes and most often function to regulate their partner sense genes at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level. The functionality of antisense transcripts is diverse and locus-specific. Effects may be positive or negative on the paired sense gene and can involve varied mechanisms, including epigenetic modification, RNA masking, or involvement in RNA stability pathways[2][3].
