Overview

The novel transcript, antisense to TPM1 (TPM1-AS), is a long noncoding RNA that overlaps or is complementary to the protein-coding TPM1 gene (tropomyosin 1). TPM1-AS has been shown to regulate the alternative splicing of tropomyosin 1 by interacting with RNA-binding proteins such as RBM4, modulating the isoform expression profile of TPM1. Through these regulatory mechanisms, TPM1-AS can influence actin cytoskeleton organization, cell shape, adhesion, migration, and potentially cardiac development and cancer progression. However, TPM1-AS is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or conventional drug target, and no approved drugs are known to interact directly with this transcript.
