NPHP3 antisense RNA 1 (NPHP3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) encoded in the human genome and located antisense to the NPHP3 gene on chromosome 3[1][4]. This molecule does not code for a protein but is thought to play a role in the regulation of gene expression, potentially affecting chromatin structure, RNA stability, and the transcription of neighboring genes[1][6]. NPHP3-AS1 has been implicated in various physiological and pathological processes, including kidney development and disease (notably nephronophthisis 3) as well as several cancer types[1][6][8]. Differential expression of NPHP3-AS1 and other lncRNAs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been identified as a possible biomarker for breast cancer and other oncological diseases[6]. Antisense RNAs such as NPHP3-AS1 may also play a regulatory role in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders[6][8]. There is currently no evidence that this molecule is directly targeted pharmacologically (i.e., no interacting drugs or mechanism of action), and it is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][6].
