Overview

NPSR1 antisense RNA 1 is a non-protein-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 7p14.3. It is an antisense transcript to the NPSR1 (neuropeptide S receptor 1) gene and exhibits alternative splicing. NPSR1-AS1 may play a role in gene regulation and disease susceptibility, particularly asthma, due to its genomic proximity and regulatory interactions with NPSR1. Unlike NPSR1, it does not produce a protein but is a member of the long non-coding RNAs, which are increasingly recognized for their roles in gene expression modulation and disease development. There is evidence linking genetic variants within this locus to asthma and immune phenotypes such as serum cholesterol and thyroid antibodies.
