NR2F2 antisense RNA 1 (NR2F2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the NR2F2 gene and located at chromosome 15q26.2. It does not encode a protein. NR2F2-AS1 is upregulated in various cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Its oncogenic roles are mediated by sponging tumor-suppressive microRNAs such as miR-4429, miR-320b, and miR-545-5p, which leads to increased expression of pro-oncogenic proteins including MBD1, BMI1, and c-Met. Functional studies have shown that NR2F2-AS1 supports cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) while inhibiting apoptosis. Its elevated expression correlates with poor prognosis, and it has been proposed as a marker for cancer progression and a potential therapeutic biomolecule, though it is not a traditional drug target.
