NR7 represents an ancient nuclear receptor subfamily found in amphioxus (*Branchiostoma lanceolatum*), characterized by constitutive transcriptional activation and DNA-dependent heterodimerization with RXR—a mechanism distinct from more classical nuclear receptors that operate independently of DNA presence. It is considered a missing link in the transition between class I and class II nuclear receptors.
