Overview

NRXN2 antisense RNA 1 (NRXN2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the region antisense to the NRXN2 gene. LncRNAs such as NRXN2-AS1 do not encode proteins but play important regulatory roles in gene expression at various levels, including chromatin modification, transcription, and post-transcriptional events. In cancer research, NRXN2-AS1 has been identified as an oncogenic lncRNA in ovarian cancer, where it is upregulated and promotes tumor cell proliferation and progression through its action as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges microRNAs (such as miR-744-5p) and thereby regulates downstream genes and cellular signaling pathways, notably Wnt/β-catenin signaling[3]. While the NRXN2 gene itself is well-studied in neurobiology, the antisense lncRNA NRXN2-AS1’s roles outside of cancer are still being elucidated. Currently, NRXN2-AS1 is not known to have established direct drug interactions, and its use as a clinical biomarker is under ongoing investigation[3][5][8].
