NSA2 pseudogene 1 (NSA2P1) is a pseudogene—a non-functional genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional NSA2 gene (which encodes a nucleolar protein involved in ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation)[1]. NSA2P1 lacks the ability to encode a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it may play regulatory roles at the RNA level (e.g., as a non-coding RNA) but has no recognized molecular or clinical relevance[3][5]. Its parental gene, NSA2, is a nucleolar factor but this functional activity does not extend to the pseudogene[1].
