Overview

NSA2 pseudogene 5 (NSA2P5) is a human pseudogene related to the protein-coding NSA2 gene, which encodes a nucleolar protein involved in the biogenesis of the 60S ribosomal subunit and cell proliferation[2]. Pseudogenes such as NSA2P5 are defined as genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional due to mutations or truncations preventing the translation of a full-length, functional protein[2][3][4]. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects on their parental genes—such as acting as antisense RNAs, competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), or sources of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs)—there is currently no evidence that NSA2P5 encodes a protein or acts as a therapeutic target[3][4][5]. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other standard drug target class. There is no information linking NSA2P5 to specific diseases, drug interactions, biomarker roles, or safety concerns. As such, it is not relevant for drug discovery or therapeutic intervention.
