Overview

NSF attachment protein gamma (NAPG) is a cytoplasmic protein essential for vesicular trafficking and membrane fusion, where it functions as a member of the soluble NSF attachment protein (SNAP) family[1][2][3][4]. It enables the N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein (NSF) to bind to membranes, stabilizing complexes involved in vesicular transport, particularly between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus, and plays a role in platelet exocytosis[1][2][3]. NAPG is implicated in regulating SNARE complex assembly and disassembly, fundamental for intracellular membrane fusion events. Genetic studies suggest a possible association between NAPG polymorphisms and bipolar disorder, and disease links have been reported to epilepsy and other neuropsychiatric conditions[1][5]. No drugs are currently known to specifically target this protein, and it is not classified as a canonical therapeutic target in pharmacology[2][3][4].
