Overview

NSUN5 pseudogene 1 (NSUN5P1) is a transcribed pseudogene located near the NSUN5 gene on chromosome 7. Unlike NSUN5, which encodes a methyltransferase that catalyzes methylation of ribosomal RNA, NSUN5P1 is non-coding and does not produce a functional protein. NSUN5P1 is associated with the Williams-Beuren syndrome region, but it is not considered a therapeutic target as it lacks protein-coding capacity and does not participate in enzyme, receptor, transporter, or similar molecular activities[5]. Its sequences may be of interest in studies of pseudogene function or gene regulation but have no current established therapeutic role[4][6].
