NT5C3A pseudogene 1 (NT5C3AP1)

Target
NT5C3AP1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene

Overview

NT5C3A pseudogene 1 (NT5C3AP1, also known as UMPH1P) is a genomic DNA segment that closely resembles the protein-coding gene 5'-nucleotidase, cytosolic IIIA (NT5C3A), but contains mutations or disruptions that prevent it from coding for a functional enzyme. Pseudogenes like NT5C3AP1 are generally considered nonfunctional remnants of ancestral genes and do not encode proteins or act as drug targets. In some cases, pseudogenes may have regulatory impacts on their functional counterparts or play roles in gene expression regulation, but no direct biological or disease-related functions have been described for NT5C3AP1. If your interest is in nucleotide metabolism or related diseases, the functionally relevant target is NT5C3A, not this pseudogene.
