Overview

An NTM intronic transcript is a noncoding RNA transcribed from an intronic region of the human NTM (Neurotrimin) gene. Such transcripts, referred to as "totally intronic noncoding" (TIN) RNAs, are part of a large group of long noncoding RNAs arising from within introns of protein-coding genes. TIN RNAs do not code for proteins but can regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally; mechanisms include stabilization of their host mRNA, regulation of alternative splicing, and, potentially, chromatin remodeling[2]. There is considerable diversity in their expression, tissue specificity, and regulatory roles, but they are not recognized as canonical therapeutic targets like receptors or enzymes[2]. Across the genome, wholly intronic transcripts are widespread, but their functions are generally considered regulatory and not directly actionable for drug targeting or as biomarkers at present. No specific pharmacological agents, disease associations, or safety concerns are documented for these molecules[2].
