Overview

NTPase KAP family P-loop domain-containing protein 1 (NKPD1) is a predicted integral membrane protein containing a P-loop (nucleotide-binding) motif, encoded by the NKPD1 gene[2][9][14]. It is part of the so-called KAP (kidney androgen-regulated protein) family, but its precise molecular function in humans remains unknown[4][13][14]. The protein is highly conserved and has two main isoforms due to alternative splicing[9]. While it is predicted to play a role in membrane processes such as exocytosis[6], there is no direct experimental evidence establishing its biological function or molecular mechanism. It has not been characterized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other recognized therapeutic target class in the literature to date[4][7][14]. There is some preliminary genetic evidence linking variation in NKPD1 to depressive symptoms[10] and a reported (but uncertain) association with autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis[7]. However, it is not considered a validated therapeutic or diagnostic target, and there are no known drugs, biomarkers, or clinical safety concerns relating to it. The lack of robust published data indicates that its status as a target molecule/receptor is unestablished.
