NCBP3 binds to RNA at the 7-methylguanosine (m^7^G) cap and serves as an adapter protein for capped RNAs, facilitating their export from the nucleus, particularly for mRNAs rather than small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs)[2][5]. This alternative CBC is essential during cellular stress (such as viral infection or cell transformation) and contributes to antiviral defense mechanisms by ensuring efficient mRNA export and possibly impacting mRNA processing steps like splicing and 3′ end formation[1][3][4][5]. NCBP3 is part of RNA metabolic networks, interacting with protein partners distinct from canonical CBC components and with complexes involved in mRNA export and processing, such as the EJC and TREX complexes[3].
