Overview

Nuclear casein kinase and cyclin dependent kinase substrate 1 pseudogene 1 (NUCKS1P1) is a *processed pseudogene* in the human genome, corresponding to the parental gene NUCKS1. Unlike its parental gene, which encodes a chromatin-associated, highly post-translationally modified protein with functions in chromatin remodeling, gene regulation, cell cycle, and DNA repair, NUCKS1P1 does not produce a functional protein[1]. Pseudogenes such as NUCKS1P1 generally result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and while they lack protein-coding capacity, some can regulate biological processes by acting as decoys for microRNAs or producing regulatory non-coding RNAs[2][3][5]. However, current scientific evidence does not assign NUCKS1P1 a defined biological function or disease association. It is not a recognized therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and it does not interact with approved drugs. **Key distinction:** The functional gene/protein *NUCKS1* is an active chromatin-associated protein and transcriptional regulator involved in cell cycle and DNA repair[1]. *NUCKS1P1* is a non-functional pseudogene and should not be confused with its parental gene.

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate the expression of their parental genes via non-coding RNA mechanisms such as acting as miRNA decoys or generating small RNAs, but there is no published, specific function for NUCKS1P1[2][3][5].)
03

Disease associations

Other (Some pseudogenes can impact disease processes, particularly by regulating their parental genes, but there is no evidence for NUCKS1P1 having a role in any disease.[2][5])
