Nuclear pore complex interacting protein family member A5 (NPIPA5) is a nucleus-associated protein encoded by a gene on chromosome 16p13.11. It is predominantly expressed in postmitotic neural progenitors and is a reliable marker for Purkinje cell differentiation. Functional analysis supports its role as a CNS-specific transcriptional corepressor essential for Purkinje cell lineage specification, polarization, and dendritic arborization. Its biological function is mediated partly through regulation of the sonic hedgehog pathway and suppression of BMP signaling. Genetic studies further suggest potential roles in female infertility and other developmental processes, but direct disease associations in humans remain largely uncharacterized. Currently, NPIPA5 is not considered a standard drug target, and there are no known drugs or safety issues specifically linked to its modulation.
