Nuclear pore complex protein Nup107 is a core component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC), a large multiprotein channel that spans the nuclear envelope and regulates nucleocytoplasmic transport. Nup107 is a scaffold nucleoporin, evolutionarily conserved and fundamental for assembly of the NPC and proper incorporation of other nucleoporins including Nup133. It forms part of the Nup107-160 subcomplex, critically contributing to the architecture of the nuclear pore and, during mitosis, also localizes to kinetochores where it is implicated in chromosome alignment and segregation. Deficiency or mutation in Nup107 can lead to severe defects in nuclear transport, mitotic progression, and is associated with certain human genetic diseases such as GAMOS7 and nephrotic syndrome[1][2][3][5][6].
