Nuclear pore complex protein Nup155 is an essential, conserved structural protein that forms part of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) in eukaryotic cells. It localizes symmetrically at both the nucleoplasmic and cytoplasmic sides of the NPC, where it interacts with other nucleoporins (e.g., Nup35, Nup93) and supports the assembly and maintenance of the nuclear pore and nuclear envelope. Nup155 is indispensable for nuclear membrane fusion, chromosomal segregation, and for the regulated transport of macromolecules such as mRNA and proteins between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Mutations or depletion lead to defects in mitosis, chromosome segregation, and embryogenesis, and it has indirect roles in cell cycle control through its impact on mRNA translation and the p53 network. There are currently no reported drugs or biomarkers directly involving Nup155, but its disruption is lethal and associated with disease.
