Nuclear pore complex protein Nup93 (NUP93) is a core structural component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC), essential for the assembly and function of the NPC, which mediates controlled exchange of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm[1][2][3]. Nup93 anchors other nucleoporins within the NPC and plays a pivotal role in nuclear pore assembly, maintenance, and, in some tissues, in cell signaling and migration. It is targeted by caspase proteases during apoptosis and is particularly important in renal development, where its deficiency leads to congenital nephrotic syndrome[3]. NUP93 is evolutionarily conserved and homologous to the yeast nucleoporin Nic96p[1].
