Overview

Nuclear receptor co-repressor 1 (NCOR1) is a transcriptional coregulatory protein that interacts with various nuclear receptors through specific domains. It plays a key role in repressing gene expression by recruiting histone deacetylases to DNA promoter regions, thereby assisting nuclear receptors in the downregulation of target genes. NCOR1 interacts with multiple proteins including androgen receptor, glucocorticoid receptor, peroxisome proliferator–activated receptors alpha and gamma, retinoic acid receptors alpha and gamma, as well as several histone deacetylases. Loss-of-function studies indicate that NCOR1 influences muscle strength and power in mice[7].
