Nuclear receptor corepressor 1 pseudogene is a defunct, non-protein-coding genomic element found in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding nuclear receptor corepressor 1 (NCOR1) gene[1][3][4]. Pseudogenes, such as this, are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and have lost the ability to code for functional proteins due to disabling mutations like frameshifts or premature stop codons[1][3][5]. While some pseudogenes may be transcribed and can occasionally exert regulatory influences, the majority, including this one, have no direct biological or pathological function and are not considered therapeutic targets[1][5][7]. This pseudogene should not be confused with the functional NCOR1 gene, which encodes a transcriptional corepressor involved in chromatin remodeling and regulation of nuclear receptor signaling[6][8][10].
