Nuclear RNA export factor 2B is a member of the nuclear RNA export factor family located on the nuclear envelope. It plays a key role in exporting mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, particularly in germ cells and in some cancer types. NXF2B interacts with multiple export cofactors and forms granular structures distinct from other RNA export proteins. Its dysfunction or altered expression is linked to disorders such as breast cancer and Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease. Current research focuses on its fundamental cellular functions, structural domains (including nuclear localization signals and mRNA binding regions), and its potential value as a biomarker, rather than on targeted drug therapy.
Not applicable for drugs, as NXF2B is not known to be a direct therapeutic drug target; its primary molecular action is as an RNA export protein facilitating transport across nuclear membrane, dependent on interaction with factors such as MAGOH, REF, and U2AF35
