Overview

Nuclear transcription factor Y subunit C antisense RNA 1 (NFYC-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA, transcribed antisense to the NF-YC gene, a component of the NF-Y transcription factor complex. NFYC-AS1 is primarily nuclear, peaks early in the cell cycle, and is overexpressed in multiple cancer types, particularly in association with RB1 mutations. Functional studies show that NFYC-AS1 promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and inhibits apoptosis and autophagy in cancer cells. Knockdown of NFYC-AS1 in lung adenocarcinoma and other tumors suppresses proliferation and induces programmed cell death. NFYC-AS1 regulates cell cycle genes and can modulate the expression of oncogenes such as MET and c-Myc through both cis- and trans-acting RNA-dependent mechanisms that impact chromatin structure and mRNA metabolism. NFYC-AS1 is emerging as a potential prognostic biomarker and a putative therapeutic target in multiple cancers, though it is not currently targeted by approved drugs[1][2][3][4][5].
