NUTF2
Molecular classification
Transporter, Other (nuclear pore transport factor / cytosolic factor)

Overview

Nuclear transport factor 2 (NUTF2) is a small cytosolic protein essential for nuclear import of GDP-bound Ran, a small Ras-like GTPase, thus playing a central role in nucleocytoplasmic transport. NUTF2 interacts with components of the nuclear pore complex, particularly nucleoporin 62, to facilitate the trafficking of proteins into the nucleus following initial docking steps. NUTF2 expression is upregulated in several types of cancers, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, glioma, and melanoma, and its elevated levels correlate with larger tumor size and poorer patient survival. The protein also influences immune responsivity within the tumor microenvironment, serving both as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker. Despite these associations, no approved drugs currently target NUTF2 directly, and information on therapeutic mechanisms or drug safety specific to NUTF2 is lacking[1][2][3][4][5][9].
